My family LOVES ice cream. Even though my wife is lactose intolerant we are still completely obsessed with eating all frozen air whipped desserts be they ice cream, custard, gelato, or sorbet.
Our love of these frozen delicacies has led us to purchase a REAL ice cream maker.
We decided to buy a Cuisinart ICE-100 machine (https://amzn.to/2SkIATy) with an integrated refrigeration unit. This means that we don't have any bowls to freeze or ice/salt to deal with. We plug the machine in, turn it on, and it makes ice cream. I'll be giving an in depth review of this machine in a couple of months after we put it through its paces... but our first batch was amazing!
Batch #1 (S'mores")
For our first batch, my oldest daughter wanted to make s'mores ice cream. This recipe comes directly out of the pamphlet that the machine ships with and is super basic and easy. The s'mores ice cream doesn't involve making a custard with eggs. It's just mix a couple ingredients together (sugar, chocolate, milk and cream) let those chill in the refrigerator for a bit and then toss it all in the machine. The batch was supposed to take an hour... but got done in 30 minutes! so that something I'll need to watch in the future. We weren't able to mix in the marshmallow fluff, chocolate and graham crackers so we just decided to layer in the ingredients as we filled our re-useable ice cream containers.
Here's how our first ice cream attempt turned out!
So there you have it! This was our first attempt and we learned a lot about how the Cuisinart ICE-100 performs. Next up is a batch of meyer lemon sorbet for all the lactose intolerant people in my life!
